Dropping off and collecting

Please observe the no parking lines and please do not park opposite the school gates or in either of the staff car parks. Please do not bring children through the staff car parks.

If your child has to leave school early, tell the teacher and say what the collection arrangements are. When a child is collected early or leaves before the end of the school day, a parent or guardian must sign them out. Always let the teacher know in writing, or through Aladdin, if there is any change to the usual arrangements.

Uniform

Children can wear the school uniform or the school tracksuit. Both are available from Philanns (Whizz Kids), 1 Strand Street, Skerries, phone 01 849 1276.

Absences and notes

Please let us know about every absence. You can record it on Aladdin through the app, or send a note in. Under the Education (Welfare) Act the school must inform the Education Welfare Officer if a child is absent for twenty days or more in a school year. Those days do not have to be consecutive.

Please send a note if a child has not done homework, or is to be excused from a school activity. Children are not permitted to stay in at break time except in exceptional circumstances.

It is important that a teacher knows of any medical condition.

How we keep in touch

We use Aladdin Connect for communication with parents and the office is always reachable by email at secretary@loughshinnyns.ie or by phone on 01 849 0394.

The school journal is the main link between home and school from day to day. Teachers and parents use it for short notes about homework and anything else worth knowing, so please check it each evening.

Parent and teacher meetings are held annually. For any other meeting with a class teacher, please make an appointment in advance.

A few house rules

Mobile phones and smart watches. Children should not bring mobile phones, smart watches or other personal devices to school, on school trips or to school activities. If you feel a phone is essential for your child, please write to the Principal to ask. With that permission the phone stays switched off in your child's bag for the whole school day. A phone or device found without a letter, or used at any time during the school day, will be taken and returned only to a parent or guardian. The school cannot take responsibility for phones that are lost, stolen or damaged. If your child needs to contact home, they can do so through the School Secretary on the school phone.

Property. All property is left at your own risk. Scooters and bikes are not to be ridden on school grounds.

Party invitations. To keep an atmosphere of inclusiveness and so that no child feels left out of a class grouping, we ask that party invitations are not handed out by children in class. Parents are very welcome to give them out outside the school as the children leave. We would appreciate your co-operation with this.

Our Code of Behaviour and every other school policy is published on the policies page.

Moving on to secondary school

We work closely with children and parents on the move to secondary school. We are in regular contact with all the secondary schools in the area, including St Joseph’s in Rush, Skerries Community College and Loreto in Balbriggan. The Sixth Class teacher liaises with the post-primary schools and our support team liaise with their counterparts there.
