Support the school on Brendan’s voyage

Brendan’s voyage is our wishlist for the year: six projects, in the order the school and our Parents' Association have agreed to tackle them. Each one we finish will change the school day for every child in the building.

The funding a school receives keeps the classrooms running from day to day. Projects like these only happen when families and neighbours get behind them. We would love your time, your skills or a donation, whatever suits you. Everything given stays in the school and you can follow each project’s progress on the voyage below.

No amount is too small and we will never ask you twice.

How you can help

  1. Your timeJoin the Parents' Association, help at a fundraiser or a school event, or join the working group for one project. Even an hour once a term helps.
  2. Your energy and skillsTrades, painting, gardening, design, photography, grant writing, a van on a Saturday. Tell us what you do and we will find where it fits.
  3. A donationSchool families give through Aladdin, under Payments. Everyone else can tap “Help with this” on any project and an email to the office is written for you.

The voyage

Six projects this year

Each one shows where we are now, where we want to get to and what is in the way. Pick one that matters to you.

Project 1 of 6

Wall art and design

Where we are nowOur building does its job well, but many of its walls are plain and could feel far more welcoming to a child on their first morning.

Where we want to get toColourful wall art and design throughout the school that makes the building more child-friendly and inviting for every child and visitor.

What stands in the wayMoney first, then the right design and a few willing hands to prepare the walls.

Nurture Room revamp

Where we are nowOur Nurture Room is a home-from-home space where we support children to regulate, feel safe and find some peace when they are overwhelmed. It is well used and ready for a refresh.

Where we want to get toA refreshed room that is warm, calm and comfortable, so it keeps doing this job well for every child who needs it.

What stands in the wayMoney for new furnishings, then a few willing hands to clear, paint and set the room up again.

New floors

Where we are nowAfter many years of busy feet, our floors are showing their age.

Where we want to get toNew, safe, hard-wearing floors that are easy to keep clean, in the rooms where the children learn and play.

What stands in the wayMoney first. Flooring is a big job and it has to be done over the holidays so school is not disrupted, which takes planning and a few willing hands to clear and reset rooms.

Painting

Where we are nowWalls that have seen a great many school years.

Where we want to get toBright, fresh rooms the children are proud to walk into every morning.

What stands in the wayEnergy more than money. Paint costs less than people think. What a school needs is many hands over a few weekends or holiday days.

Outdoor playground

Where we are nowWe have the yard, the handball court, the pond and the new outdoor classroom. We would love the children to have more to play on at break.

Where we want to get toA playground every class can enjoy, from Junior Infants up.

What stands in the wayMoney, then planning. Play equipment, safety surfacing and installation add up and grant applications and fundraising need people to drive them.

Sensory trail and garden

Where we are nowSome children need a calmer, quieter place during the day to settle and reset and our grounds have room for one.

Where we want to get toA sensory trail and garden of textures, plants, sounds and quiet spots, built for every child and especially for those who need it most.

What stands in the wayEnergy and know-how as much as money: planning it, digging, planting and keeping it growing through the seasons.

What we have achieved recently

Funded by a government grant

New tables and chairs in every classroom

Every classroom now has new tables and chairs, replacing furniture that had served the school for twenty years. The children approved straight away.
