On May 24th Rockshinny played their first gig at St Maur’s G.A.A. club. Our school rock band had been practicing all year and performing at various assemblies throughout the year, but this was their first official gig as a band. The whole school community got behind this fantastic project led by Mr Rory Keary . St Maur’s kindly gave us the venue for the event, which was packed to the rafters and the atmosphere on the night was epic. The band , dressed in their personalised hoodies, kindly sourced by Sharon Rudden, took to the stage at approximately 7 p.m. and rocked St Maur’s for nearly two hours with classic rock anthems like “Smells like Teen Spirit” and “Zombie” by the Cranberries. We were all so proud of the band and it was a fantastic positive bonding experience for everyone involved. WE hope it might lead to something even more epic in the future.
June 15th We had a presentation of new jerseys for our school G.A.A. team from AJK motors. Mark Kelly kindly attended our end of year presentation to present the jerseys with Serena Whelan from our P.A. who liaised with Mark to make this fantastic gesture possible. There was great excitement at the end of year presentation , where coach Anthony O’Flanagan made one of his now infamous motivational speeches to sign off on another successful season where we reached another Fingal Final only to be narrowly beaten by a two point margin. Anthony praised the players on all teams for their unique togetherness in victory and defeat and the continuing improvement of all the players throughout the season. The presentation ended with great excitement as Mark Kelly on behalf of AJK Motors revealed the new jersey and the new design for 2018. Huge thanks to everyone involved especially our coaches Anthony O’Flanagan, Ross McAuley, Sinéad Cunnane and Cindy Halpin who are instrumental in keeping an enthusiastic and positive attitude around our sporting teams at St Brendan’s N.S. Loughshinny.
